Are some BRAGsters becoming braggers? Not really, but we do have a good deal to be satisfied with in our activities this past year, and I would like to boast just a little for all of us. We have kept four repeaters smoothly in operation, including an APRS station and the UHF machine at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. We have watched our membership roll grow and our members become increasingly active in several on-the-air community service efforts. Many of us braved high temperatures, higher humidity, midnight rain squalls, and lousy band conditions at Field Day. A few of our members were instrumental in setting up the Low Country’s first D-Star repeater. We have continued to keep our Thursday VHF net going with Beaufort County ARES business, local activity information, and ARRL bulletins as regular features. Several of our members are active in the ARRL field organization, the National Traffic System, the Beaufort Memorial Hospital radio response team, the Volunteer Examiner program, and MARS. And then there is this excellent web site….
As usual in organizations like ours, a relatively small number of stalwarts carry the lion’s share of the burden. These folks are not coerced into helping the rest of us; they do it because they are “amateurs.” And remember, the word “amateur” is from the Latin for love. They love what they do. They don’t ask for any compensation from the rest of us. They represent the best of the Amateur Radio Service. Our obligation to them is to “do as they do.”
If you think BRAG “should be” doing something, step forward and help do it. Let’s make 2010 even better for our club.
